Is America’s Future Best Determined by Her Leader’s Character or His Color?

“Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance” (Psa 33:8-12).
Would America’s founding fathers even recognize her today? In 1963, when prayer was unapologetically removed from “Christian America’s” public schools, God was summarily dismissed and the door was left open to every manner of evil. Situation ethics and denial of absolute truth became the guiding principles for America’s youth.
When one generation failed to read the Bible, the next failed to believe it; and for many today the Bible is little more than a historical “book of fables” that does little more than collect dust. Oh yes, it still serves ceremonial purposes, like when we promise to tell the whole truth; and when a president of the United States is sworn in.
In January, 2009 Senator McCain or Senator Obama will lay his hand on God’s Word and swear to uphold the responsibilities of president of our nation. He will assume the most influential job in the world.
It was also in 1963 when famed civil right leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed aloud that his children would one day live in a nation where they would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Perhaps he hoped that they would judge others by the same standard. In the upcoming election, how will we choose? Will it be skin color, or character? Skin color is obvious.
Character must be judged. It’s determined by a person’s belief system; his past and present behavior and personal relationships; his openness and transparency; and how closely he reflects the values of Scripture.
God is calling America back to godly character and conviction. He is once again giving us opportunity (along with responsibility) to contribute to the selection of the man who will bear this greatest influence of any man on earth. Ours is no small duty. I (Eddie) have already casted my (absentee) vote. We both (Eddie and Alice) beg you to consider the principles presented here and cast your vote for character, not color.
